Welcome to Cineplots

Home movies can be a lot of fun to make. Movies take us back to good times, good people, and the great places we visited. Unfortunately, our audiences often lack the context of production. Endless shots of pretty scenery and smiling faces can get old pretty quickly.

Cineplots was born of a simple idea: why not add a plots to your home movies? Plots provide context, continuity, and human interest. We first developed this idea while on vacation in Madrid. People who saw this early attempt were intrigued by the idea and started asking for help with their own home movies. "The Pig Roast" was our second endeavor.

This website was designed to serve as an ongoing resource and idea exchange to help you make your home movies more interesting. On this wesite you can link up with Writers, Videographers, Editors, Sound Engineers, and of course, find great Plots.

Adding Plots To Your Movies

There are three basic approaches to scripting your home movie. You can "go Hollywood" and write a script, storyboard it, plan your camera shots, hire or coerce your actors, shoot it, edit it, and if you live long enough, show it. Or, you can take the "retroscripting" approach. Start with a basic theme and just work with whatever and whoever comes your way. A few theme-specific scenes can help with this approach. The least compulsive apprach is to just film something with no preconceived plot and then make one up during editing. Obviously, this one is pretty much all you've got when you are working with archieval footage. Regardless of the approach you choose we have many resources available to help you with your production.

How to share It: Uploading Your Work.

You can upload your movie to any number of sites on the web: YouTube, Google Video, MySpace TV, MetaCafe, Daily Motion, Veoh, Current.com, Clip Fish.de, MyVideo.de, Break.com, and EyeSpot.com. Once you have uploaded your production, go to "Suggest New Video" on this website and enter the required information. That's all there is to it! We hope you will become an active member of this community. Register, upload often, review others work and make comments. And please, take advantage of the many resources available on the Cineplots website.
